Clive Fletcher Developments
Clive Fletcher and Maynard Burton
When Clive Fletcher was first starting out on a new career in property development two decades ago, he knew that he’d need first class legal advice.
After a recommendation from a business associate led him to Maynard Burton, now mfg chairman, he knew he’d found someone he could work with – high praise indeed from someone who admits: “I’m not generally a big fan of solicitors.”
Since then, they have shared the ups and downs of the property world, including the boom of the late 1980s, the bust of the early 1990s and back to the buoyant market of today. And the company has weathered the storms to achieve substantial success: Clive is modest about his achievements, but will admit that his banking is done at Coutts.
Clive’s Kidderminster-based business is a family-run enterprise, operating within his native Worcestershire. Over the years, Maynard and mfg have provided a full range of legal services to Clive and the business, including specialist advice on acquisitions and disposals of all kinds of land and property, including commercial, domestic and industrial.
Clive says: “Maynard’s very straightforward, a stand-up guy. His air of solidity and confidence creates a nice atmosphere to do business in. That’s true of the whole mfg team – it’s rock steady.
“Maynard and I understand the way each other works. He knows I won’t be jumping up and down about every little detail, because I trust him to do the job.”
That word - trust - is echoed by Maynard. He says: “He trusts me to look after his interests and have the courage to tell him the truth.
“At mfg, we like to get to know our clients, and going through the good and bad times of the property market has certainly put our relationship to the test: it has emerged even stronger.”
