Lawyers scrutinise CGT at Worcester seminar
Published February 2008
mfg Solicitors in Worcester is to present a seminar exploring the implications of changes to the capital tax regime for owner-managed businesses.
The seminar entitled “A Taxing Issue: Where are we now on Capital Gains Tax?” will examine the consequences for owner managed businesses of Alistair Darling’s proposed changes to the capital tax regime.
mfg associate Gary Priest and his colleague Steve Holden from the firm’s taxation department will host the seminar at Worcester Rugby Club on Tuesday, March 11 - the day before the Budget.
Mr Holden said: “This latest seminar will look in detail at the proposals for CGT under the new regime with particular reference to smaller businesses, and follows on from others the firm has held successfully for people in different sectors.
“The Chancellor supposedly introduced the proposals for the new regime in response to requests for simplification but in many cases the net effect will be an increased tax burden upon businessmen and women.”
He said the seminar would explore the expected budget announcements, identify the winners and losers and advise on ways to mitigate tax bills.
Mr Holden continued: “All owner managers, no matter what the sector, will be welcome at the seminar, and those planning retirement or selling their business or shares should find it extremely useful.
“We will explain exactly and clearly how the new tax regime will operate under these proposals, and how the maximum advantage can be derived from that by those in business.”
The seminar will run from 4.30pm, with light refreshments served from 4pm, and will last approximately two hours. To reserve a place at the seminar email: lian.styring@mfgsolicitors.com or call Lian Styring on: 0845 55 55 321
