Kirsten swaps brushes for briefs
Published March 2008

An art teacher with a degree in fine art who changed careers and trained to be a solicitor has joined mfg Solicitors in Worcester as a litigation lawyer in the firm’s Agricultural and Rural Affairs division.

Thirty-four-year-old Kirsten Bridgewater is now working alongside senior partner Jim Quinn, a nationally renowned agricultural expert, partner Iain Morrison, head of the agricultural and rural affairs division, and associate Jonathan Clifford, having joined the firm from Blakemore’s Birmingham office where she undertook a two year training contract.

Kirsten spent eight years as an art teacher at Dene Magna High School in the Forest of Dean after achieving a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at the University of Central Lancashire.  Her husband Simon still works at the school where he teaches IT.

Over the years Kirsten began to feel it was the law where she wanted to spend her career and gave up teaching in 2004 to do a full-time Legal Practice Course. Earlier she had embarked on a two year distance learning Diploma in Law course from which she graduated in 2004.

She said: “I am sure now I made the right decision in changing careers.  From the start of my training I was drawn to litigation and enjoyed going into court.  Contentious property and probate linked in well with my interest in rural and agricultural affairs and so when the job opportunity at mfg came up I was delighted.  I live in Worcester and have known of their excellent reputation for a long time.”

Partner Iain Morrison said: “Changing careers is not an easy decision to make and Kirsten’s commitment to qualifying as a lawyer impressed us as it showed tremendous determination.

“We are delighted to welcome her on board and are sure that our clients will now benefit from her determined approach to their work.”
